Back
Pile khorjin face
Shahsavan Confederacy
Northwest Persia/Southern Caucasus
Circa 1870
46 x 52 cm (18 x 20.5 in.)
Weaving Density: 10 v x 20 h = 200 kpsi.
Colours: orange, peach, cochineal purple, light blue, dark blue, light yellow, brown, ivory (8).
Condition: missing slightly at both ends, some corrosion to browns, otherwise full pile with original selvedges.
Notes: The pattern seems to be inspired by flatweaves as there are no colour contours. The silky wool and the fine, elongated knots are what i associate with weavings from the Karabagh area.
Provenance: Brian Morehouse, Los Angeles.
Featured in our gallery and web exhibition entitled front/back - a Collection of Exquisite Small Persian Tribal Weavings.
