The carpet from the North Chinese province Ningxia depicts on beige ground the motif of a lotus flower, symbol of purist and long life, that appears in the medallion of the field and four times in the field surrounded by meander motifs. The four butterflies that surrounding each lotus flower are also signs of luck. Single flowering twigs as well as different vases are scattered over the field. The geometric motifs if the four small medallions are repeated in the spandrels with blossoms. The border is comprised of two borders. The broader one is filled with rocaille motifs, while the slimmer one has got a meander pattern. The entire composition has a soft and calm effect. The Ningxia is in age-according good condition. The dimensions are 2.97 x 1.95 m.
