An unresearched large medieval dish formerly the property of an English archaeologist.

Acquired at a uk auction in the early 1980s from a collection of ceramics belonging to an archaeologist who had worked in the Middle East and in Southern Spain. While the collection has not yet been properly researched, the bowls and jug have been given estimates of age from the 13th century to the 16th century, with varying origins thought to be Southern Spain, North Africa and the Middle East.

There are interesting elements in the bowls found in Islamic ceramics and tiles, include sgraffito and encaustic techniques, as used in tiles in Europe and the Middle East from the 13th century. The patterns include botehs and floral decorations and in this bowl, a geometric design reminiscent of Andalusian Islamic design. The bowls have been repaired/conserved in the past and are understood to have been excavated. Size 32.5cm diameter x 5cm deep. Any leads on their origin would be welcome.
