Rare men’s loin cloth from the Northern Chin, Haka group, Burma. Mantles of Merit: Barbara Fraser has a good write up on these, and has a couple of pieces dating to late 19th to early 20th century, she also writes these were rarely used after 1950 so i can date this piece to be pre 1950. The two end panels are different colors of which the lighter blue colored is original while the darker piece is looks to be slightly newer. Made from hand spun cotton with silk patterns. a few small holes, the worst being noted in enlargement 5 and a tear along the side of the central white piece (which also has a few stains btw). l: 3.7m/12ft2in and w: 42cm/16.5in.
