Chinese Rug with Eight Horses, This is an unusual rug from Mongolia. The theme of this rug is taken from an old Chinese story about eight horses that go west in search of their mothers. The appearance of eight objects is said to be a very lucky occurance. Each horse is depicted differently in both design and body position. The yellow colour indicates that this rug was made for a noble family. The border is a modified flyflot pattern that has unique symmetry side to side and end to end. Cotton warp and weft, asymmetrical woolen knots.
