Pile bag face, Afshar tribe, Southern Persia, Circa 1900, 43 x 35 cm (17 x 14 in.) Knot count: 8 h x 9 v = 72 kpsi. Colours: brick red, dark blue, yellow, emerald green, medium brown, dark brown, ivory (7). Condition: full velvety pile with original sides and ends. Top end is fraying at its center. Notes: I love the totemic character of this stylized flowering plant, resembling a prehistoric bird about to take flight. Interestingly the design runs opposite to the direction of weaving.
