Thick wool pile on a coarse striped flatweave foundation woven with natural dark and mid brown sheep wool in two panels on a narrow hand loom. Plaited fringes with additional cotton and silk trade cloth tassels or wishing pieces. The centre panel is applied striped silk velvet in two joined pieces and probably later than the weaving, perhaps a replacement for an earlier fabric.
Various origins have been suggested including Kurdish east Anatolian, Uzbek and even Tibetan (the 'Wangden' like border maybe) but as yet, lacking any comparator, its use and origin are uncertain. Size 97cm x 86cm. Take your pick or make your own suggestion!
