This is from the area of Nuristan, Afghanistan. It is in the shape of a hood but is usually too small to fit over the head so stays perched on the top of the head. It is often used for ceremonial occasions like weddings. It is made of black fabric covered with red appliquéd fabric and decorated with embroidery, buttons, and coins. It is about 13 inches long and in very good condition.
