One of the rugs, kilims and collectible textiles i found in Turkey in June, this Bergama rug is very distinctive. The central field appears to have Turkmen influence with the white border of vibrant abstracted carnation motifs and the outer border and wide red and blue kilim guards more characteristic of Kozak and the Bergama region. The rug has a striking large 'muska' amulet woven into the upper kilim guard reminiscent of some West Anatolian Manastir prayer kilims.

The rug originates from an old mosque collection and has had the top corners of the kilim guards repaired and one section of the centre right a carnation in height professionally rewoven, almost invisible except from the back. a beautiful, striking and artistic collector's rug with expressive drawing and excellent dyes (the orange may or may not be natural). Clean and in very good condition. Size 152cm x 100cm.
