Very old chuvals like this are not so common as most died from exhaustion after continuous use over several generations. More recent chuvals do not usually have such well dyed wool and this example has particularly good colours with white cotton also used. The drawing of the soumac panels is excellent and the type of gul is interesting, a kind of inverted Memling gul also found in Karabagh weavings (last photo is a Karabagh mafrash). In good complete original condition with minor holes, old nomadic patch repairs and an antique tent band with embroidered attachments, though not the first generation band.. Size 140cm x 118cm.
