One of the antique kilims collected in Turkey in June, striped kilims of this age and colour/dye quality are a rare find. Harry Koll refers to a related kilim in his recent book 'The Poetry of Simple Things (Die Poesie des Einfachen)' as being from around Karaman (last photo is an extract from his book). Sonny Berntsson comments that "this color range i have seen in the area South of Aksaray from the villagers Gelveri, Tashpinar, Lemiye and near Karacadag." i have also seen related kilims with a different colour palette not so far away in Cappadocia. Age unknown, although from the dye quality and colours, it cannot be later than 19th century. Size 245cm x 128cm.
