Mount Fuji. Russian roller-printed cotton cloth for export. Early 20th century. An interesting pattern that combines the iconic Japanese Mt. Fuji with the Islamic star and crescent. i have seen three versions of this design besides this one - all without the star and crescent. One was used as lining material on an Uzbek robe (it had a brown ground with pink motifs); another was used as a lining on a Turkmen child's kurte (also on a brown ground); and the third was used on the back of a small Persian Resht embroidery (see red and cream image - slightly altered for current production). This example with the star and crescent was probably intended for the Islamic market - it was found in Uzbekistan. Two pieces 19" high x 28" selvedge to selvedge. Both in good condition with a few very small holes and slight stain: each piece $50.
price:
$50 each piece
