This is a coat from Albania which was part of the Ottoman Empire before the First World War. The Gold couching work is typical of the Turkish style which was very elaborate and used gold or silver thread to decorate most of its costumes. This type of costume is very rare especially one with the (fake) sleeves. Generally they are made without sleeves and look like long vests. The coat has purple velvet under the gold couching which peaks out in certain places, and the lining is silk ikat. The lining on the sleeves is yellow silk and is not in good condition. The coat is in fine shape, other than the lining on the sleeves, and is aesthetically extremely beautiful.
