Ceremonial huipil (blouse), Tecpan village, Guatemala. Cotton, silk. 1970s or 80s. 51" (129.5 cm) wide by 23.5" (59.7 cm) high. Ex. private San Francisco collection The hand-spun cotton threads used for the body of this large huipil are natural brown warp threads called ixcaco woven in with red, yellow and blue threads; the geometric supplementary weft brocade designs are in silk. The neck opening is finished in the traditional china cinta ribbon and the side edges are open.
