An exceptional Antique Ersari Turkoman / Turkmen Talismanic silk embroidery, dating to 19th century. There is an elegance to this piece boasting the best of Turkoman design. Such fine silk embroideries were made to serve the superstitious beliefs of the Turkoman cultures and were often either rectangular, square or triangular shaped. They would be attached to garments, trappings of other textiles and were thought to have protective powers. The triple boteh motif in the field is dancing birds in flight and the border motifs are birds in flight too. There is a three dimensional element to the design.. The embroidery of this coveted example is fantastic. The natural colours really magnified the beauty of the repeating boteh motif design. The directional texture of the embroidery gives the piece a motion. Email your questions. size: 17cm x 6.5cm (7" x 2.5") diagonal.
