Back
a very rare example of a pair of antique Turkoman / Turkmen Diziyks (Camel Knee covers), made by the Ersari tribe during the 19th century. Camel Knee covers pairs are rare in their own rights and were often made in woven wool pile format. This unique pair is one of the few example that are silk embroidered type. The Diziyks were really used to decorate a camel during special occasions, mainly in wedding ceremonies. This perhaps explains their rarity. This special example has fine silk embroidery on white cotton ground and backed by padded felt. The colours are lovely and the design show classic Ersari motifs. The pentagonal shape is wider and more authentic looking than many pile examples we see. It is a fine piece and a unique ethnographic textile for any collection. a very reasonable price. size: 37cm (14.5) x 15cm (6") each.
