Afshar or Luri chanteh. This soft colorful bag face once served as the outside panel of a small personal bag, or 'chanteh'. a pair of 'boteh' paisleys are drawn in madder red and medium indigo blue against a dark ground. As the brown is slightly corroded, most likely due to the use of an iron mordant in dye preparation, it creates a subtle but pleasant sculptural effect. The contrast of colors is exceptional, with several layers of pairings that create a harmonious balance. This is a truly tribal piece, complete with the original colorful decorative fastening slats. The weft is wool, and the warp is plied wool and cotton.
