Detail of a small Western Anatolian kilim. The colors are deeply saturated and it looks to be from the 1st half the 19th century. There is an inscription that looks like a date, but not all of the figures are typical Arabic numerals. It could be a "pseudo date" - not sure. Small kilims from this period are not common. It is missing a little on all sides. This is a an endearing and striking little piece at reasonable price. Comments welcome on the date or inscription. Size: 64 x 39 inches.
***Many thanks to John Batki who informed me that there is an identical inscription found on a kilim that is the first color plate in Johannes Wolff-Diepenbrock's Eine Sammlung (2009) and ascribed to the Yuncu tribe, Bandirma region.
