This is a particularly rare and fine example of a type of Turkman rug, the function of which is uncertain. It can bwe recognized as a brides's rug for her wedding or it can be identified as a prayer rug (sajjada) where the "oi dume" technique is applied and considered more difficult than knotting.A small feature that conveys something of its special character are the little jewel-like details in silk in the cross-motifs. Unlike others, the chevron motif pattern in this piece is not unidirectional. Judging by the colour style this appears to be the work of the Tekke tribe. 19th century; Vegetal dyes; worn with foundation exposed, Cotton and remants of silk threads; wool flat weave and foundation. 100cm x 100cm.
