The scale of the design elements in this early Anatolian kilim are impressive. This, along with other factors indicate a date well before 1800 for the kilim. Because it is hard to convey from the images here, i have included a few details that help to convey the imposing design scale of the piece. The kilim itself is large, measuring 158 x 63 inches and is mostly complete with the kind of damage found in many early kilims. It has been conserved to a linen backing cloth and was once attached to a frame as indicated by the velcro strips sewn to the back side of the linen cloth. Even with the damage this weaving possesses the kind of power and scale associated with very early kilims. The price is reasonable.
