Back
As far as the beauty of faded indigo can go, this item is absolutely stunning. The cloth is more than 100 years old and has been carefully sashiko-stitched. It also displays an unusual sign. The first part of it is mountain, and below the character for “beginning”. Maybe it was a creative way of writing the surname “Yamamoto”. On the other side, the word “Fuji” is written. The towel is large and called a “Furoshiki”. These are a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods.
