Salar Khani Baluch bagface, 19th century, 20”x19”. a finely woven bag with exceptional wool and natural colors. It is hard to capture in photographs and the close up pictures are a better representation of the colors and wool than the full image. The bag is directional, with spandrels only on the bottom and the fine weft substitution only on the top. Also, the weaver opened the herati design with the first two fish motifs appearing over the spandrels. It gives the field an vase like perspective that enhances the directionality. The number of legs on the 16 creatures scattered in the drawing also increases moving up the bag (started with 3-legged animals in the spandrels and up to 5-legged animals at the top. It is an exceptionally well executed drawing. There is a small hole that has been sewn shut in the outer border (see pictures). Otherwise the condition is excellent with full even pile throughout. Wool foundation and a fine handle
