Turkish Rugs in Transylvania: a New Edition by Marino and Clara Dall'oglio
VG/F in likewise Fine unclipped dw. The Crosby Press, Fishguard, Wales 1977 - First Thus. Illustrated by 30 color plates. Reprint of the 1925 edition updated by Marino and Clara Dall'oglio with commentaries on each plate. Great old Anatolian rugs found in Transylvanian churches. In the early part of the twentieth century it was realised that the many hundreds of Turkish carpets decorating remote Transylvanian churches were an important record of an age of Turkish weaving whose products had otherwise largely vanished The rugs came to be there because it seems that the local community developed an enthusiastic taste for oriental carpets when Transyvania was under Ottoman influence. 'Tapis Turcs', which is the basis of this book was originally published in Paris in 1925. It consisted as a portfolio of thirty loose plates and a brief introduction. This edition has been enlarged by the authors and includes the 30 large colour plates reproduced from the original portfolio.
