Back
moroccan berber inscribed prayer rug which is an extremely rare example from the Ait bou Ichaouen Berbers in the eastern High Atlas. i know of no other published similar rug. The attribution is based on the unique weave pattern seen from the reverse and there is a virtually identical weave shown as plate 68 in the text book "Ait bou Ichaouen" by researchers Alfred and Suzanne Saulniers. The rug is old and has the original hanging loops at each top corner. There is minor wear in the field which corresponds exactly to the place where the knees and feet of the person praying would have been. An outstanding and serious rug which will grace any Berber collection. Reference 2762. Size 163 x 84 cms., or 5ft. 4ins. x 2ft. 9ins. Euros 1150.
