Tanggeon with base, Korea. Horsehair, wood, 21" (53.3 cm) in circumference, 6" (15.2 cm) high. Late 19th to early 20th century. The tanggeon was worn by nobility, as well as men in the commercial and medical fields. It would cover the mangeon, which was a horse hair head band that would keep the hair in place. It also might be worn as a support beneath the gwanmo, a more formal and elaborate official hat.
