Antique Caucasian Tribal Shasavan Rug 48239, Size: 5'2" x 6'4", Origin: The Caucasus, Circa: Final Quarter of the Nineteenth Century - Here is an exceptional antique Oriental rug - an antique tribal carpet that was woven in the Caucasus during the latter years of the nineteenth century. Featuring a distinct tribal aesthetic as well as a traditionally tribal color pallet, this comely rug exemplifies some of the finest trends to have developed in Caucasian rug weaving. First, the composition and format of the carpet are striking: rather than featuring the traditional field and border dichotomy that characterizes most antique Oriental rugs, this particular example features what can be described as an outsized inner border, which dominates the action of the piece. This area of the carpet, colored red and black, features a series of alternating horizontal bands, each of which features a procession of detail elements. While one features small geometric details, the next features abstract animal details. All of this surrounds a central square of bright red that is riddled with traditional Caucasian design elements. a dizzying array, these elements project a rich sense of tribal authenticity. a beautiful example, this antique Caucasian carpet is an excellent iteration of the fine antique tribal rug.
