Back
An exceptional and very rare type of antique silk and metal Central Asian hair piece / dorsal. It dates to second half of 19th century and is unquestionably one of the rarest of its type. It is Uzbek but possibly attributed to one of the smaller and lesser known groups. i have seen a similar style belt in the past but not other example. It is woven with silk and metal threads in a type of slit tapestry weave where the silks are wound around the warps - a very complex technique for a textile. The diamond chequered design is really a canvas to boast the strongest point of this textile and that is the fantastic colours. We see all the primary colours executed with natural dyes. i can't emphasize how nice the colours are. It is finished with silk tassels. In mint condition. Size 61cm (24") x 11cm (4").
