Exhibited at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach in 2013, this rare c1800 Japanese kesa for a high ranking Buddhist priest, 42 x 80 inches (107 x 152 cm). Made from 21 appliqued strips (jo) of fine silk in good condition that simulate vows of poverty. Slight fading of the face with the original lining on the back of plain white silk that is now fragile and fragmentary. May be purchased with, or without, the custom wood frame. Photo credit: Jacek.
