a very interesting example of Antique Uzbek Lakai Silk embroidered Napramach or mafrash panel dating to the 19th Cent. It is the front panel of rectangular shaped bags which would have had three embroidered sides and flat weave back that were used as bedding bags storing fabrics and would be hung in a Yurt. Napramach were made either as original shaped or made up of patches of expensive lakai squares and hangings put together to make a bag. So this piece believe it is original. Recycling was pretty common amongst the lakai tribe. We see a combination of classic chain stitch silk embroidery as well as cross stitch. What i love about the random nature of the patches is that while it is concocted in manner that the design appears asymmetric, it is this which makes it so appealing and beautiful to the eye. It is like a modern art work but with an archaic ethnographic feel to it. Somehow it works. One can see it has been used and was once a functional piece. These are relatively rare and this is a funky example that would make a cool wall hanging. Email your questions size: 155cm x 40cm (57" x 16").
