An unusual antique Uzbek / Ghajaree (Ghajari Gajari) silk woven tent band, dating to late 19th century. Such float weft weaving made in border region of Northern Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have always been one of the most beautiful and visually archaic types of Central Asian weaving. But these weaving referred to as Ghajari were often made of wool and made into either large floor covers, tent bands and times horse covers.. Seldom one comes across an example made of silk and executed so beautifully as this piece. It suggest that this example was made for the tent of a special person and for a special occasion. The motifs of the design is fantastic. Archaic patterns repeated echoing ancient protective and talismanic motifs. The colour combination is beautiful with a rich green that one rare sees. a great piece. Photos don't do justice to this piece, you really need to see it in person. Size: 520cm x 5cm (204" x 2")
