#6887 Peking Chinese Rug
This circa 1890 Peking Chinese rug measures 8’9” x 11’8” (271 x 359 cm). It has very lovely shimmery ivory colored wool with a darker ivory narrow border. This rug is utterly fantastic in design. It has a round center medallion containing an urn of masses of flowers in shades of blue, brown and black. The field contains ten different sprigs of flowers. But the border is the truly elegant part of this rug. It is composed of twenty bluebirds engaged in different occupations such as perched on top of lotus beds, winging over flower sprigs, and three birds sitting atop a rockery staring at the others. This activity continues around the rug. The rug is very serene and very elegant. It is full pile. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance.
