This very unusual 19th century Middle Amu Daria region torba or trapping has a design like that seen in flat woven pieces often attributed to the Ersari. This example may well be an Uzbek product, but this is not certain. The weave is quite uniform and the spinning and knot count relatively fine. The knot is asymmetrical open right. It is in good pile and the dyes are all natural. There is a barely noticeable corrosion to the reds. The graphic design of this torba is rare in piled pieces as far as i can tell and the indigo outer surround is beautiful and unexpected. Size: 20 x 48 inches. Reasonably priced.
