An Exceptional antique Uzbek Lakai Tribe silk embroidered Ilgich / Ayna Khalta hanging dating to the last quarter of 19th century. This particular example is very unique. The medallion with four boteh field design resembles the designs of the suzanis of Shahrisabz region. But this is quintessentially Lakai tribe or some smaller related tribe to the Lakai people. It is fine silk chain-stitched embroidery on red wool ground fabric known as bannot. The design is floral but expressed in a very archaic manner and rendered with magnificent primary colours. The unique repeating boteh borders and the random bumble bee motif is charming and an indication of top examples. The rendering of the medallion is also eye catching. a fine piece of textile art in mint condition. Offered at a fair price. Size 60cm x 60cm (24" x 24") with tassels extending extra 7cm (3").
