a rare antique Uzbek Lakai Tribe silk embroidered Ilgich / Ayna Khalta / mirror bag hanging dating to the last quarter of 19th century. Such envelope shaped Lakai embroideries with a false flaps were mirror bags used in wedding ceremonies. It would contain the mirror in which the bride and groom would see each other for the first time. It has delicate chain stitched silk embroidery on black ground. Large disc shaped motifs with directional embroidery and beautiful detail fill are made with gorgeous colours. The over all condition is very good with some wear of embroidery that really doesn't distract the over all beauty. a beautiful textile art offered at a very good price. Size 55cm x 51cm (21" x 20.5") with tassels extending extra 7cm (3").
