This beautiful carpet from inner Mongolian features an interesting centre field design composed of a central medallion with a modified flyfot design symbolizing the sun. On each side of the medallion are like panels of lotus flowers on a salmon coloured background. The field is completed by many small peony flowers in a combined happy wheel and geometric pattern. More lotus flowers complete the interesting corner designs. The inner border is classic single key meander. The elegant outer border has designs from the Eight Ordinary Symbols, including the lozenge (a symbol of victory), the gold coin (a symbol of wealth), and the endless knot (a symbol of love and devotion). These symbols are surrounded by yet more flowers. Cotton warp and weft, asymmetrical woolen knots in a very good condition.
