1840 or earlier Konya-Ladik Long Rug, 3'10" x 16'3". Spacious and delicately drawn design with wonderful old colors, purple-aubergine, yellow, green, three reds including a spectacular cherry red and a stunning light blue with a strikingly subtle abrash throughout. Classic motifs that are well spaced for dramatic effect with beautifully formed Tulips and elegantly drawn and spaced border flowers with curled tail leaves separating the border flower heads on a yellow ground. Many design cues taken from 18th century examples, note the serrated edge flowers with extended animal heads in the field and medallions. Better than many published examples. Good even pile everywhere with some older restorations. Purchased in Turkey in the 1970's. Fresh from a private collection. Sold
