Fabulous 1840 or earlier Ladik prayer 3’9” x 5’10”, with amazing colors, tomato red field, real butter yellow border, lovely deep aubergene minor border with aubergene highlights in the main border and throughout the field as well. Lots of light blues, two greens and assorted other colors. Very well drawn, crisp and articulate with a fine weave. The striking top panel has a row of 5 poppies on a cherry red field growing from aubergene inserts that contain opposing multiple headed Ashik diamonds. The open red field is topped by an emerald blue-green mirhab containing large, stylized leaves and assorted sized flower heads. All borders are crisply drawn with well rendered designs not far removed from the 18th century versions of these prayer rugs. As with anything approaching 200 years old there have been professional restorations of good quality caliber with some minor and minimal fading. The rug remains crisp and vibrant ready for its new home.
