Palampore printed and painted on Cotton 1825/1850
India for export to Europe. Rich floral and figures repertoire with large central rosette. Flowers, pomegranates, peacocks, birds of paradise, scales compose a rich decoration marked by the manual layout of the Indian craftsman. The borders with pompoms and friezes are inspired by a European decor. Palampore lined with a modern linen fabric to ensure its good conservation. Excellent condition of color and conservation.
Dimensions: 178 cm x 354 cm
French and Italian sources indicate that this type of piece was made for the Universal Exhibition of Paris 1855. The Anglo-Saxon sources indicate however that they were made for the Asian market (Indonesia, Sri Lanka). Personally, the quality of the piece would lean me to opt for French sources. Exceptional color condition with pinching of blue and yellow !!
Perfect condition except a very light halo of invisible water in one of the sides.
