Circa 1900/1950
Tunisia
Beautiful wedding ceremony jacket from the Hammamet or Rafraf region in Tunisia. Back is in satin silk and multicolored cotton (violet, orange and red with thin stripes). Dickey with braids of brocaded trimmings in chenillettes and flat threads, large buttons with sequins and pearls hold by green cotton braids. Rich shoulder pads embroidered with gold wires, chenillettes and sequins. Lining in blue sky taffeta silk. Excellent condition and color.
Dimensions: height of back 54 cm, front height 42 cm, width of jacket and shoulders 52 cm.
A beautiful testimony of tunisian textile artefact that was excellent in golden embroideries and in the richness of the wedding outfits.
None except for a few stains of decoration in the sky blue lining, otherwise very good condition.
