An exceptional example of an antique Uzbek Lakai Tribe silk embroidered Ilgich / Ayna Khalta hanging with false flap dating to the last quarter of 19th century. This large envelope shaped is a coveted example in every respect. It has fine silk chain-stitched and blanket stitch embroidery on red and black wool ground. The directional embroidery gives the motifs texture (a sign of top examples). The design is bold with floral motifs that are not quite typical example. i have seldom seen such large scale free flowing motifs such as this piece. The alternating flower and star is visually powerful. The colours are fantastic. i love the contrasts between the yellow, green, blue and purple that makes against the red. The cross stitched edging embroidery is also filled with an array of bold primary colours as well as the tassels. It has a gorgeous patina and good over all shape. One for the top tier collections and much nicer in real life. . Size 66cm x 59cm (26” x 23”). Email your questions.
