Chin Men’s Ceremonial Blanket: Men’s tunic from the Chin ethnic group, most likely from the Hakha Township, Chin State, Myanmar. i purchased this in the 1990s and it is not very old- probably made in the 80s or 70s. This is an authentic ceremonial piece worn only on special occasions. i have not seen any more of these during the past 15 odd years of my usual buying trips. This weaving is a vanishing craft and quite possibly no longer being made in the traditional way. The embroidery is single side floating weft while the blanket warp threads appear to be made of alternating handspun indigo and commercial black threads. Perfect condition, l: 195cm/76.8in and w: 113cm/44.5in.
