Back
An unusual antique Baluch. All you need is a horse to wrap up the sides and its ready to ride. It measures 36 x 63 inches and is symmetrically knotted. Looking at the rug from a little distance it appears that the white stars are floating above the rest of the field. The fact that the weaver purposely and meticulously staggered the white stars, as well as the other colored stars in an off-centered pattern, gives the piece great visual movement. There is one very small crude darning at the one corner in the next to the last picture. All the rest is all original. There must have been a few pieces of tape that were used on the back as there is a very tiny amount of residue that was left as you can faintly see in the last picture. i do not know why tape would have been used other than to help secure the selvage cords from tearing away. There is no weak areas in the woven knotted areas or the kelim end.
