Back
An exceptional antique Central Asian silk embroidered horse blanket / saddle cover. Dating to the third quarter of 19th Century, this fine ethnographic embroidery is attributed to the Uzbek people and very likely the Lakai tribe. This school of horse covers aren't the typical Lakai example. In fact they are more finer in stitching and more intricate in design. The masterly embroidered chain stitch silk is finished on a red wool bannat ground. The design is beautiful with two large discs filled with intricate details. The borders follow twin curling boteh gols. These rare textiles were used on special occasions and not many have survived. My asking price is pretty fair. There are some slight abrasion to the embroidery but doesn't distract. size 151cm (59.5') x 117cm (46") /83cm (32.5') .
