An exceptional and fine example of antique silk and gilded metal embroidered Imperial Chinese Qing Dynasty (often pronounced Ching or Tsing dynasty rank badge, dating to the 19th Century. Such rank badges were often given to high ranked ministers or officials residing in the forbidden city. They would be attached on the back and front of the garment. What is brilliant about this fine example is that the birds and the cloud waves around her are metal embroidered while the remaining design (the landscape and background) is in silk. It really jumps the design out. The detail is incredible. The loosely woven ground fabric suggest that it was for a summer robe. a lovely collectible piece of textile art from China offered at a reasonable price. size: 29cm x 28cm (11.5" x 11").
