a beautiful and very decorative antique Uzbek Shahrisabz silk embroidered suzani. It dates to the late 19th century - early 1900s and it is a very unusual example. The fine polychrome silk chain stitched embroidery is typical of the suzanis made by the rural areas of Shahrisabz (often confused as Lakai suzani). But what is interesting about this piece is that the ground fabric is silk velvet. The design is just gorgeous. Floral designs bursts out in the field. The borders consists of spinning flowers made of botehs. i love the running dog pattern in the the thinner borders. The overall condition is good with some insignificant wears on the ground fabric - none of which distracts. it has a lovely floral lining. Offered at fair price. size 169cm x 134cm (66.5" x 52")
