Pre-Columbian bag face, Chimu Culture. Ex-collection Ferdinand Anton. Published in "Ancient Peruvian Textiles" by Ferdinand Anton, 1987, plate 110. This is a very good tapestry woven image of a standing deity or shaman figure done in the typical North Coast Chimu style. a.d. 900 - 1400. The textile has an unusually broad range of colors (nine) which includes a good blue and green. It is a very well done and rather uncommon image when used as the main motif on a bag. It originally covered the entire front face of a small coca bag. This piece was professionally cleaned, conserved and mounted with a Plexi case. Textile size 6 x 7 inches. Mounted size: 14 x 14 inches. The image from Anton's book shows the piece as originally published.
