a beautiful antique Uzbek silk on silk Abr Ikat quilted Robe dating to the late 19th century. Very likely from Bukhara Bokhara, this gorgeous garment is referred to as a chapan and it is made of silk warp and silk weft ikat fabrics. The striped design with archaic motifs that are often represented in Central Asian jewellery is visually dazzling. This combined with the way the gorgeous natural dyes are applied to the design elevates it to a real work of textile art. It is a visual play of colour and design. It is quilted, possibly at a generation later in its life. It has a lovely floral cotton lining. In near mint condition. size: neck to bottom = 104cm (41") and Sleeve to sleeve = 130cm (51").
