One of the best examples of Antique Ersari Turkoman / Turkmen Talismanic silk embroidery tawees / moska, dating to mid - third quarte 19th century. Such fine triangular silk embroideries were known as moskas or tawees and to made to serve the superstitious beliefs of the Turkoman cultures. They were attached to garments of children (the future hope of the tribe) in the hope to bring protection to them. This particular example boasts fantastic natural and primary colours. The blue, green, yellow, white and the reds are fantastic. The fine silk embroidery is just perfect. Notice the abrasion of one particular red. This is an important indication of very old age. This red dye could only have been absorbed in wool so whenever you see central Asian embroidery with this colour worn, that’s because the wool is eaten and it suggest very old piece. The design is brilliant. It is a work of art. Size 15cm (6”) x 7.5cm (3”).
