Moroccan Berber Hood, 48 by 50 cm. i am sure that this seemingly insignificant Jute textile, painted with henna, will be the delight of any collector of Berber textiles. That’s why i have featured it. Former owner attributed it to the 19th. Century. Unlikely for any Berber textile, but it does, indirectly, emphasize this object’s rarity. The hand that drew this captivating array of ancient pictograms, was like a medium connected to an archetypal collective memory. Contrary to the many weighty intellectual speculations dedicated to the origins of this art, the crude lines on this little hood express just joy: the joy of being alive!
