Great 'Sarkoy' kilim. Bulgarian, early 20th century, 30ies.
Clean no staines in perfect condition. 280 x 194 Cm. .3 feet x 6.5 feet.
These big area kilims are always thick and thight woven, very durable.
So is this one. Excellent rug on the floor.
It is in top condition. No staines, no holes, no bleeding, clean, perfect edges nice abrash. It will last another century.
Sarkoy is the name of a Turkish harbour at the Black Sea coast.
Turkish rug dealers gave that name to these Balkan made rugs.
In 1913 the Turks lost all their last territory in the Balkans.
End of the Ottoman time.
Only a small part they could keep with Sarkoy in it. These kilims are in fact
made in a much wider area; Bulgaria and Macedonia so 'Sarkoy'is an incorrect and misleading name.
